Finished Projects, Old and New!

January 10, 2011 Leave a comment

This photo will be replaced when I remember to relocate my camera cable!

I realized over the weekend that I never blogged about my last two pillowcase dresses. And these are the ones I made completely by myself! Embroidery and all.

My favorite part about this whole project, I think, was when my cousin opened the present containing the dress for her daughter. I had used a pillowcase that came from my grandmother (hoping this would be extra special)…and to make it EXTRA extra special, my aunt immediately recognized the pillow case as one she had taken to college. I couldn’t have planned it better! It was also my favorite dress out of the bunch! (it’s the one in the middle of the photo at the linked blog.)

I mentioned last week about my Pay it Forward project for 2011…and over the weekend I succeeded in completing my first project for it! Yay for getting started early! It was actually rather easy since I’ve been making these felted balls for years with leftover yarn, but at least I was given a good reason to go ahead and string them into a finished project.

Pay it Forward!

And additionally, I started a birthday present (and am halfway done) for my sister-in-law whose birthday isn’t until February. Hopefully all weekends in 2011 can be this productive!

I would also like to take a chance to thank my boyfriend for my awesome phone for Christmas. The first photo (unless you’re reading this in the future and I’ve replaced it) was taken with my old sub-standard blackberry. The bracelet photo was taken with my new iPhone 4. Isn’t the difference amazing? The iPhone photos are actually able to be used!

More finishing for Christmas – Wallets

November 16, 2010 Leave a comment

More than a year ago I bought these wallet kits from One Stick Two Stick. I’d completed some pouches and other projects of theirs, but it probably wasn’t until the Blizzard in January that I found and got started on the larger wallets.

The “sushi” that the pattern called for didn’t turn out like I’d wanted them (I cast on way too tight, I know). In fact, they looked almost vulgar.

Instead, I picked out some felted flowers this last weekend at A.C. Moore. I think I like them even more! The green wallet is from the original kit, the striped one I whipped up by using up leftover yarn (while watching The Waltons because I was sick of shoveling). I love the look of felted yarn!

I’m not sure who these will be gifts for yet (or if I might just have to keep one for myself!) but it was such a relief to find my zippers last night and FINALLY finish them!

(Randomly, the zippers were in my trunk. Yes, I bought them in January. Stop judging me!)

The Christmas Crunch time!

November 9, 2010 3 comments

It’s November, so for a person who makes probably 80% of her Christmas gifts, it’s crunch time!

This weekend I finally sat down and made a list of who’s getting what and what needs to be finished…Only half a dozen or so things left to make. Ahhhh!!

But after realizing that, I did happen to sit down on Sunday and finish a pom-pom scarf I started, guess what, the DAY before. It was super easy, but I was also a rockstar for making that happen. And I love it! I wonder who will be lucky enough to receive it next month…

And yes, it is as super soft and comfy as it looks (perhaps even softer than it looks!). It makes me want to curl up in a ball and take a nap with it.

My Meetup Anniversary!

September 13, 2010 Leave a comment

So about a year ago, I created a group on Meetup.com. To be honest, I wanted to prove to myself that I could be social and not get all crazy anxious about it. Plus I was stressed with the lacking ability to find a home… Basically, I needed something to keep me busy and help me finish the 12 thousand projects I’d started!

I didn’t know if a single person would even show up to my first event (12 did) and I’m so happy that the group is still active, and more active and regular than ever!

My first concept was pretty much to just get a “stitch and bitch” going (perhaps with less bitching). And I think I’ve found exactly what I was looking for!

The group gives me an excuse to get out of my house once or twice a month (and an excuse to clean the house when I have occasional meetings there!) and it’s helped me complete a number of projects. I never would have found the felted crown pattern I used to make all my neices (and cousins’ kids!) crowns this past winter.

This weekend, I finally wrapped up that bunny blanket after our meeting.

Thanks friends for helping to create such a wonderful place for us to gather, share stories and ideas!

Rainy Days and Mondays…

July 26, 2010 3 comments

What little girl will be lucky enough to get this pillowcase dress?

Although I was dying for a weekend of nothing but sleep (oh how I’ve missed you!) the days ended up being quite filled.

I know very well that I’m not the best homemaker in the world, so I purposefully force myself to host get togethers so that at least once a month or so, I’ll have to actually clean up and vacuum!

Saturday afternoon I hosted my sewing Meetup group for sewing and pie! Yum! My favorite!

These ladies blow my mind with the amount of crafting they get done month by month, and the amazing things they make for charity! One was crocheting coral for a Smithsonian exhibit, one was making a red scarf for children from the foster care system…they really inspire me to do more creatively.

I’m now more than halfway finished with my first pillowcase for my pillowcase dress project. It’s so much easier to get things done when crafting with other people!

Yesterday, the Boyfriend and I went to see Despicable Me. It was a cute movie, although the best parts I think are in the previews (as they usually are!).

It was nice to get out for a date day finally though. We get too used to just sitting at home and watching TV.
