Is it real yet?

Yes, I took another much needed break from blogging for a while. Sometimes life just gets so hectic and I don’t want to spew it all for the world (or my small part of it) to see!

Mr. Finn is doing much better. After a second surgery he’s starting to get up and moving so he can be home next weekend to celebrate my birthday (yes. Of course that is his only motivation for getting out the hospital. Aren’t I that important?). He is completely through with chemo and thanks to the second surgery, they were able to see that he is completely cancer free. Yay!

This weekend Charles’ family threw an engagement party for us. I’ve never really been the type of person that thinks engagement parties are necessity…but now I understand their purpose. Being so completely celebrated and praised by his family helps me know even more (although I didn’t doubt it before) that I am being welcomed with loving arms into his family. It’s an amazing show of support to have those that love us do something like this for us.

When we finally set our wedding date after months of being engaged, I said to Charles, “Isn’t this exciting?! This makes it so much more real! This is a huge step!”

To which he said, “What, me putting that rock on your finger didn’t make it ‘real’ enough for you?”

Sometimes guys don’t get it.

But after the party this weekend he said “This is so huge. It’s like we’re *really* getting married in less than a year! Isn’t it exciting? Doesn’t this make it more real?”

To which I had the chance to say… “What? You putting a rock on my finger didn’t make it real enough??”

Touche.

But the party was more than either of us expected. Yes, we knew there would be a party and we knew who was invited, but we had no idea that there would be speeches by both of our families or why the party was planned.

Charles’ sister had talked to their dad just before he died and they were both excited at the possibility of Charles proposing to me. Their dad wanted to make sure they had a chance to get to know my family and to start our marriage off right…and it was his idea that a party be thrown in our honor.

Special thanks to cousin Jill who came all the way from Philly just for the party!

Well, both of our fathers would  have loved the event and would have loved sharing in the love present for us that day.

Now we just hope our wedding can be as good of a party as that one!

To be honest, at first we thought it was a weird idea. We technically had a party right after we got engaged (or we just rented out a bar and told everyone we could think of to show up to surprise me). But it wasn’t anywhere near as organized or fabulous as what Tawana threw!
