“Sometimes I worry that my partner’s humor may affect our relationship”

Last night, Charles and I had our second meeting with the priest to prepare for our marriage. The meeting with the priest was short, and then he left us to take the FOCCUS test for about 40 minutes.

The test wasn’t at all surprising to either of us, but we were impressed with their tactics to keep you thinking. Missing the word “seldom” or “often” could lead  you to give an answer you didn’t really mean.

About half way through, I started cracking up. I got to the question “Sometimes I worry that my partner’s humor may affect our relationship.” Maybe 10 minutes later, when he got to that question, I also heard an audible “hrmph!” from him too!

It is very clear that Charles doesn’t find me funny. And from the first moments he met Dad and Dad said he’d relish a hotdog, (“But do you want anything on it?” “I’d relish a hotdog!”) he knew exactly where that humor came from.

Funny or not, Charles better accept me and my simple jokes and puns! And hopefully neither of us is worried they will affect our relationship.
