We’re Making our List

I’m not so sure about the checking it twice…

I never in my life imagined that I’d marry someone who would have a larger guest list to my wedding than me. My father was incredibly close to all of his “cousins” (In parenthesis, because I’m pretty sure some of these were of little or no relation), so I always thought that I would be the person having the hard task of figuring out who I would have to say no to. Truth be told, I made my list even before the ring hit my finger, and it was hard to decide…do the fourth or fifth cousins get an invite?

These decisions got much easier last night when I finally convinced Charles that before we can even think about hiring a band for thousands of dollars, we need to figure out how many people we’re feeding! So he made his list. Yay!

My well thought out list of family (including third cousins…and some fourth) was nothing compared to his!

If I didn’t know the man better, I’d call his bluff and say “Seriously, when’s the last time you saw this person? I’ve never met them. Should they REALLY be invited?”…But alas. I know him too well.

I guess the down side to marrying a man with a heart the size of Charles’ is that I’ll end up having 400ish people invited to my big day. It gives me stage fright to think of all those people looking at me, but I have to remember what they all keep saying to me as they call to congratulate him…He really is the best guy. Who wouldn’t love him and want to be there for him?

So two tasks have been checked off on our wedding planning to do list. Those that know how I work, know that I love my binders with handy index tabs. I never work a large event without one.

That was the first task accomplished. Now, the guest list is done (or at least has a really good start). We still have to add about 30 from his mom’s side of the family.

Next, to get him to a church and to meet a priest so we can set a date!

Tip of the day: I highly recommend the All-in-one Wedding Planner google doc for getting the lists organized online. If Charles used a computer much, it’d be super easy to share between the two of us. But even still, this will make it easy to share lists and plans with mom, the wedding party, etc.

Your comments about the size of Charles’ heart are absolutely right on, and they made me smile to see how much you love him and his friends, family, and “family”. Charles is one of the most dedicated friends I’ve ever met, but it never occurred to me that one of the implications of that is that he has so many dedicated friends in return, which will make for a pretty big wedding! Your wedding will be full of love and lots of fun! 🙂 Sounds like you’re well on your way in the planning!

      “Dedicated” is an understatement 🙂

you, (like your parents) have always been organized – so i totally understand the binder! i do hope you’ll enjoy all the planning & anticipation. ask jeannine how she ever kept all the anxiety at bay. emily said (often) that her sister was the total opposite of a bridezilla. emily couldn’t handle all that, and so she eloped. owen’s plans include only aunts & uncles w/ first cousins. each couple designs their future to fit them – there in is the excitement. best wishes that the 2 of you enjoy ‘the journey’! love to both of you.

I can only hope my planning and wedding go as smoothly (and beautifully!) as Jeannine’s! If only Woody had a plethora of fall flowers he could supply me with…hrm…

Hope the third cousins make the cut!! 🙂 We had SO much fun planning it all, and it sounds like you are too! One of the great things about our long engagement was we got to just keep adding names… and names… and names… to the list, and because of where it was held we didn’t come up with our “final” number until a few months before. We did the same thing with music, but we eventually had so many songs there simply wasn’t time to play them all in a six-hour reception!! Love you guys!

That’s what I fear Jeannine! We still have 17 months to keep adding more names!

Oh yes, Mary Frances. It was a GOOD thing for us, but it sounds pretty dangerous for your situation!!

400-ish people??? What are you going to feed them all? Bread and water?? 😉

Loaves and fishes. We’re hoping they’ll multiply!
